Just thinking. The reason why people are materialistic is that they want to avoid jealousy.
Whether they are taking music lessons to compete with their musically inclined friends or installing more software for the feeling of having a more fun computer than everyone else, people do evil greedy things because they feel inferior. As I think of it, there is really no reason to feel inferior because everyone feels inferior. Everyone lacks confidence, but everyone conceals it by acting like superior talented awesome super-people.
But the initial reason for these feelings of inferiority is that people constantly compare themselves to other people-- other people who are also trying to portray themselves as super-people.
So I'm trying to start a new habit in myself. Instead of boasting my superiority whenever I feel less than someone else, I shall try to admit my problems to other people. A world of humanlike humans united and equal is better than a world of jealous inconfident humans causing each other jealousy and inconfidence.
